Dear Subscriber,

Greetings! The June issue of the Know Newsletter™ is packed with good things.
It brings research on fiber and reduced healthcare costs, flavorful new foods
hitting supermarket shelves, and recipes for colorful dips and appetizers.
And don’t miss our spring conference update!

Can Fiber Help Save Healthcare Costs Related
to Occasional Constipation?

Yes it can, according to a new analysis that estimated the economic impact of increasing dietary fiber consumption on healthcare costs related to occasional constipation.1

According to the analysis, increasing fiber intake may lead to considerable annual savings like these:

  • $12.7 billion in savings if US adults increased dietary fiber intake to about 25 grams per day – about 9 grams more than the average intake.

Spring Conference Season – What a Whirlwind!

We’re touching down to update you on a super-busy conference season.

Food Marketing Institute (FMI) Annual Meeting

We just returned from FMI Connect in Chicago, where supermarket retailers and industry partners met to network, problem-solve and sample new products.

The Kellogg’s nutrition team took part in several events to help attendees bring health and wellness alive in their stores. Here are highlights of what we did:

  • Presented lessons from the MyBowl™ toolkit on the Benefits of Breakfast and Build a Better Bowl, and discussed ideas to feature MyBowl™ in store.
  • Staffed our food truck to provide cereals, snacks and handouts.
    See handouts here.
  • Hosted a reception where attendees networked, mixed and mingled.

Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Meetings

In April, the Kellogg WIC team traveled coast-to-coast and in between to state WIC conferences in California, New York, Illinois and Michigan.

We gave presentations, hosted breakfasts and breaks, and handed out cereal samples, recipe tastings and educational materials.

In May, we attended the National WIC Association (NWA) Annual Education and Networking Conference in Pittsburgh. We presented on the food industry’s role in helping state and local agencies improve client access to WIC foods, and ran in the NWA 5K.

Up next: Look for us later this month at the Texas WIC Nutrition & Breastfeeding Conference and in September at the NWA Biennial Nutrition Education and Breastfeeding Conference in Atlanta.
